Rules

• This competition judges more than just art; we judge character development. Thus, it's important that ALL your main entries have stories to them
• Horses from the past challenge may not be re-entered
• Lineart is not allowed; however, skeleton tracing is as long as proper credit is given
• You may do as many images as you want, but all mandatory images must be completed in order to qualify for placing and to keep your Kaimanawa
• Registration is Mandatory as this year, space is limited - there are only 50 spots, and these do fill up fast. More designs may be added - but no more that 65 total.
• To register, there will be a Google Form which will be found on the front page and in an Announcement journal
• You MUST read all the journals in the group

Registration

This year, to prevent us being clogged up with notes, there will be a Google Form system in which you submit your details, such as your dA username, the name of your stable, where your stable is located, and which Kaimanawa you are most interested in. More information about this will be released when Registration opens.

The Aim of the Challenge

The challenge is based on a mixture of art and story telling, and lays great importance on character development and relationship. We're not interested in seeing grand prix dressage horses coming out of this competition. What we ARE interested in is how your horse went from being a reclusive wild thing with a terrible fear of humans to a trusted and well loved addition to the family, who just so happens to compete in dressage as well. We're not interested in the end result, we're interested in the road you took to get there. This Challenge aims to test your story telling abilities, and show everyone just how well you flesh out some characters. By the end of this competition, we should be madly in love with you!

Mandatory Images

This part is a bit different than past years. To stand a chance at placing and to keep your Kaimanawa, you must have the five mandatory images completed and submitted to the group via your stable's folder. This is very important, because we're not gonna go shuffling through every user's gallery searching for KC images. So if we don't see it in your folder, it doesn't exist.

To read more about Mandatory Images, have a look here!

Please know that you are not in any way limited to doing only these five images! You can do as many as you want; or you can do these images and write the rest as stories. OR you can do just five images! It's completely up to you and up to how much it takes to get your story across!

Judging

The KC is going to be judged this year on both effort as well as a point system. Your effort into the KC will count for 50% of your final placing, so if you put your all into your entries, you're going to do brilliantly! For effort, the judges are going to look at the following:

• The first thing we'll look at is if you completed all the required images. If not, you won't qualify for judging or placing, though you may still get honourable mentions at the end of the show.

• Next, we're going to look at your art. How much effort have you put into your entries? Are the majority of them shaded and coloured? Or are they all sketchy and half-hearted?

• Third, and extremely important (perhaps more so than the art), we're going to look at your story, and your characters. Have you put thought into the story? The storyline must be plausible, but other than that, go completely wild! Tell the story of your horse's rehabilitation, or how it bonded with someone in particular, or how it helped someone to overcome… something. The sky's the limit! As for the characters, we're looking for development. Are they exactly the same as when they started? How have they evolved and changed?

Each image you complete that is in your folder will help gain your points towards your final placing. This point tally system will be released towards the end of the KC, but I will be keeping a running tally from the very start of the KC. These points will contribute to your final score but please remember, it's your effort into the challenge that will make or break you!
